We made a Black Forest Dump Cake this past weekend - for 4th of July - first time that Dad ever actually had any - cuz it is always gone when we make it for Girl Scouts!

Using the little red wagon and box oven right next to the BBQ is funny - but, the box oven is cool - Foxhound wants to do the Vagabond and Buddy Burners - maybe this weekend - just to practice - they aren't as efficient - but, I remember making breakfast on them during camp-outs - and I remember them getting really hot and someone getting burned!

I really should be getting something ready for dinner - but - blogging is more fun - and besides everyone else in the house is either chillin watching videos - or playing games on the xBox - why should I be "working" in the kitchen - besides - it is too warm for cooking!

June 3-5 CAMP-OUT!

Well, that Junior Troop did not make the camp-out but, THREE Cadette Troops did! Our troop - 1126, Troop 1576 - who was with us on our last camp-out and Troop 32 form Capo Valley - their first time tent camping!
It was SO much fun meeting new friends
- cooking on Charcoals
- making DUMP CAKES

- the Black Forest Cherry Cake is definitely the favorite.

Dutch Ovens and Box Ovens are truly amazing pieces of camping gear. Next time - I want to try CHICKEN!
Each troop shared a craft or project - we shared Wire Pant Hanger Cooking Skewers - which we used for the dinner (and S'mores - we also gave the first time campers "John Wayne" can openers to take with them, to always Be Prepared (and to never be without a can opener) plus a Whisk Broom for their tent.

The birds woke me up each morning around 5:30 - WOW are they loud! SO many different species too. Phoebes, Acorn Woodpeckers, Flickers, CROWS, Ducks?! Red-Shouldered Hawks and one I couldn't recognize - maybe a Whip-poor-will?

It was a great weekend!

Mother's Day last week end - I asked to go check on some of our Caches - and to find one without coordinates. I love finding caches - without the coords! We took GeoPup Romeo and he had to SNIFF everything - too much sniffing causes SNEEZES!

Busy week and it is gonna get worse - next weekend a GeoEvent for Girls in SU RT2
Foxhound is one of the Cadettes helping Dopey - she went with Dopey yesterday to grab coordinates for the event. She needs to put together a cache by next Sunday - she claims she is TOO BUSY with homework - she is playing Minecraft & chatting on Skype with a friend right now - so - where is the "TOO BUSY"????

Still need to get more film canisters for CITO kits for the event - gonna try a few more Targets - and our favorite Photo store one more time before Sunday. They are SO difficult to find now with nearly everyone going "DIGITAL"

First weekend in June is our second multi-troop camp-out - we need to do a practice day with the Junior troop - haven't heard for sure that they can meet with us - and our troop needs to plan their dinner - thoughts are to do the same as last time - they have done it once - and it was easy - they pretty much handled it on their own - while I was busy with the Dump Cakes - Dutch Ovens and Box Ovens!

Is that the new "politically correct" name?

Well, another busy Girl Scout week ahead - and Sara just told me she's not sure she wants to continue... disappointed in the troop turn out for the meetings - says "we're not a "troop" two of the girls of our total of five are rarely if ever there. and they keep changing the formats and the new journeys are"cheesey"..." - I told her that she and I could be Independents - We aren't sure if our oldest girl will be continuing - she's graduating to High School - I am not happy.

Yesterday - I used a gift card three places: first, to get my car a much needed oil change, about $30 @ Target & last, a new cabin air filter - (which replaced one that was only about 6 months old ) because the guy @ Jiffy Lube told me (and SHOWED me) that the one I had was full of junk... and "grey" - which is by the way the color it STARTS out!!! - Some of the "junk" was RAT droppings~!???????!!? Not so sure I believe them there - but, even @ the store I got the filter at - they say it actually happened to them a SQUIRREL got into the engine and chewed the wires & made a nest!

Crazy.

well, Girl Scout Spring Renewal is happening soon - on-line this year - we'll see - I really do not want Sara to quit... next year is our 100 year anniversary!

meant to way back in October.. when nut sales started and we had a four troop camp out and that flew by - then other weekends and those flew too - then cookie sales and a friend's passing - it ALL flew by.

Tonight daughter and husband are playing Laser Tag with other Girl Scouts - they are both XBox (360) gamers so Sara was REALLY excited to do a LIVE game....

I am making a promise to try to get here once a week - I will try to do my best!

Well, not exactly – “disharmonic” or even “dissonance”.

But, definitely very loud! Every morning dozens of birds sing their lungs out – Sparrows (probably house), Finches (we see mostly House), Hummingbirds, Orioles, Mocking Birds, Mourning Doves, sometimes Crows and even Geese! Always, they begin before the first alarm, 5:30am or earlier. I wish I could identify them all by their calls… I know people who can. I only know for sure the Oriole, Mourning Dove, (Anna’s) Hummingbirds, and Crows.

This morning I decided to “get up with them". I needed to check things on the computer. There are two benchmarks that may or may not be “discovered by us later today when we go to the Outdoor Center behind Irvine Regional Park for the Orange County Girl Scout Recognition Picnic; I have been told to attend; as I am one of the recipients of the “Spot Light Award” this year. I don’t trust the listed coordinates. I use Google Earth and the “to reach” descriptions. One matches – one does not – so – it is a “we’ll see” kinda thing – I have two other sets of eyes to help.

Memorial Day 2010 –

Last weekend was a Saturday that I work half day. Afterward, Foxhound and I went to the Villa Park Towne Centre to grab six Waymarks and add two or three more. Then – there were four more benchmarks I wanted to find and add to www.waymarking.com. THREE of them along Santiago Canyon Road outside Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. I had told Foxhound that parking inside the cemetery was safest – then walk to the three benchmarks. We discovered a sea of American Flags at the Cemetery!!! One stood out as it was MUCH larger than all the others and Foxhound insisted we go to that one.

There, we met Joel K Brattain – Bronze Star and Purple Heart – 21 ½ year old Hero. I took a picture of Foxhound there – it might just replace my favorite picture of her and the white rose…

On the Fridays we don't have Girl Scouts - usually I just come home - but, DJ posted on FB that Kori Linae Carothers would be the guest Artist - and we'd met her last time we were there to see Scott August - so I told Sara that I'd swing by home and we'd race over there - for Kori. John Luttrell was there too - and they played together - it was amazing.

Rainy Saturday

Saturday February 6, 2010 - It is raining- so no hike at O'Neill Regional... We had to take care of some Girl Scout errands - Bank to deposit Cookies Now Money and the Post Office to get Over Seas Stamps - then what??? Sara ALWAYS wants to know what we are doing AFTER.

So while I was waiting for her to get up - I farmed my FarmVille Farm... noticed a new sign - It was probably a glitch that caused the sign to be from "?" but I knew from that message - it came from a friend who works at a "REAL" farm - in San Juan Capistrano!! She had some REALLY exciting news... THEN - DJ on KSBR says that Scott August will be at a store called Tushita Heaven next Friday (02.12.10)... I had never heard of the store - so - I Google-Earthed it. In the intersection by Zia Jewelers, the Mission and Starbucks??? - must go in person to find it....

I raced up-stairs and said to Sara; "I know what we're going to do today Ferb" - that's from Disney's Phineas and Ferb for those who might not know... I told her - we had to do the GS stuff - then San Juan - had to re-new our Annual Pass at the Mission too - and of course there are the Blueberry Bagels with Berry Cream Cheese and a "new Store" and ~ZOOMARS~

took care of the Girl Scout stops and got DRENCHED in the down pour while I was getting gas for the car...

Down Antonio to San Juan! This time - since there is a new park (Los Rios Park) near the Mission and Zoomars.. we parked there instead of our normal lot - besides with the weather - we'd get less wet - First, we went to the Mission to do the renewal thing - They had an awesome book about the Mission this time when you re-newed! We walked around a little bit - the fish were nearly swimming out of their fountains! water was to the very brim! One golden Koi kept putting its nose (?) and chubby cheeks - yes - it has chubby cheeks! - out of the water!

We left the Mission to find the "new" store - I told Sara that Google Earth had it in the Starbucks building - wrong... and it wasn't in the Zia Building either - no store there is big enough for Scott August to play and people see him... What about the Ruby's building?? hadn't been there in a really long time - and there are several levels to that one... up stairs - around and THERE - there's the sign - around and down! Open the door - WOW! this place is BIG! and zoom - a white and brown blurr races past us! A "dog" store!! We spent at least a half hour there - a really cool place - "Enlightened Living" is the rest of the store's name. Sara's first spot - (besides the dog) was the polished stones - we ended up getting two - mine - a Kyanite - her's, she doesn't remember it's name but it is teal in color. The dog - he lives for visitors to play tennis ball with him - which - we both did...

next - Sara is hungry - she wants one of those bagels... thankfully the rain is holding off and we walk to the parking lot where we usually park - and The Bagel Shack! These bagels are really good! Next time tho I want to try one of those sandwiches!

I was figuring that Zoomars might not be open due to the rain -- but there was that sign at my FarmVille.... we walked down Los Rios and towards Zoomars... it's OPEN! and my friend is at the entry booth - I ask her about the triplets... and she grabs some feed baskets says "You saw the sign! - they are behind the shed go see them" We got to go in their pen with their mom and three other expectant goats. OHHHH so cute!! And Mommy goat - she was the biggest of the four and nearly pure white - was SOOO hungry! She ate almost all the carrots and other veggies. The three babies were jumping and falling and climbing and falling and getting on top of the other mommy-to-be's backs and falling and shaking it off to do it all over again! They went to Mom and nursed - and back to playing. I spent most of my time petting one of the other goats - she just stood there leaning her head into me. It is relaxing to pet any animal - especially when the animal needs to relax too.

We left the goats - back to the car - and Sara insists that we play on the playground - I let Her do all the playing. The Clouds are rolling in (fast) - Sara we gotta go.... and we still have a few more stops to make! We stopped by Michael's and Chick-Fil-A (bought 3 sandwiches to-go/one was free!) on the way home - enjoyed the afternoon rain from inside the house.

I kinda forgot about my blog - been busy and some times - thot of blogging - that sidetracked...

Anyway - today we (Sara and I) went with this group that I used to hike with often. They were heading out of O'Neill Regional Park to the Monastery at the end of Hoffman Homestead Trail - we'd never been actually IN the monastery and had heard about their shrine to the Major Religions and told Sara that I wanted to see it. http://www.vedanta.org/vssc/centers/tours/trabtrail.html for their website - It was a long hike for Sara but, she did it - and several of the adults - talked to her - one - Barbara - a professional artist from Montana - quite a bit - Sara enjoyed that.

We dodged the rain, it started several hours after we came home - beautiful cool day for the hike! and - no cougars.

ROMEO: Staffordshire Bull Terrier - Australian Shepard - Boxer -

SO I ordered a DNA test from PetCo for Romeo our "Beagle-Whippet" per the Mission Viejo Shelter. All were listed in the "in-the-mix" category meaning he is a Full-Blooded Mutt. But, we knew that, and I knew there was NO Beagle there. Boxer??? Sure he always seemed to especially like them at the dog parks and Boxer owners say their dogs KNOW other boxers from other dogs (??) But he looks nothing like a boxer. And that Australian Shepard thing... lots of people have guessed that about Romeo - but WHERE is the LONG fur???? He didn't get the fur!!!

Staffordshire Bull Terrier... I can see the hind quarters - strong and similar to the Whippet and Greyhound - built for speed and running - yes - that I can agree with - 100% but, his legs and feet... Romeo's feet are sleek and slender and he has longish toes like the whippet and greyhound. He is not so stocky - barrel chest - yes - always I saw that - THAT for sure - but wow - maybe we'll go with the extend version - it can tag nearly 100 breeds - maybe.

Saw something about the Staffordshire that they particularly like children - again lots of dogs do - and Romeo has always tended towards them - "asking" for pets from them first....

GIRLS SCOUTS ROCK!

This weekend Sara and I led four short hikes for Service Unit RT2 - for their SU Camp-Out at O'Neill Regional Park... They gave us thank-you cards with a special treat for a movie! We went today to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Very good - better than I expected! We started seeing the previews during our vacation in August at Tahoe.... Sara has read the book - she says, several times we even gave the book to the book drive thru Borders. Alan Parsons Project is featured in the soundtrack!!! I was enjoying the SIMON door-code-lock when all of a sudden there was Sirius playing in the background!!!

Something else in the movie made me think of Big Bang Theory and Sheldon.

I love Nerds!

Acorn Day October 18th - O'Neill Regional Park

I guess the Rangers wished it was bigger.

But I was very please with the showing of Girl Scouts!! Service Units from Garden Grove - Orange - Lake Forest - Aliso Viejo - RSM - and a few others too!

Our 10am hike was a blast -- nearly all Girl Scouts! I included a talk under my favorite Oak on the Water Tank Road. We had a smaller hike at 3:30 and it too was very well received.

Our groups always thank us and tell us were were great - but a Jackson Browne comes to mind - nearly every time "...Tonight the people were so fine, they waited there in line And when they got up on their feet, they made the show ... People you've got the power over what we do, You can sit there and wait or you can pull us through Come along, sing the song You know that you can't go wrong..."

I love when I can feel the groups connect and respond! Not saying what we do is "a show" but - the people make it for us - when a kid has a reaction to what I say - and I KNOW the kid "GETS IT" - I am blessed!

Henry Winkler and Betta Fish

Chase is airing "spotlight company" commercials - "-cause they're *NEW* to California" - this week was "Pacific Reef Tropical Fish" - I got the coupon - now where's the location? Hey - there's one on the way home from work! Tried Friday - but - they were all out and said another shipment was coming at 4pm - um - "tomorrow?" I ask - they said they should still have some - today after work - on our way to the Readers' Festival - I stopped by again -- this time with Sara - I told her I had wanted to surprise her yesterday but that they ran out of the fish. The coupon was for the fish and a "Disco Betta" starter kit. they said the fish had gone MUCH faster then they expected! We had to buy food and water conditioner - but I had just received a $25 gift card this week - SOO - FREE FISHY!

- in Mission Viejo - to see Henry Winkler - he writes kids books (and I'll bet you thot he was just "the Fonz") - the Hank Zipzer: The World’s Most Amazing Underachiever series. We bought 3 of the books at Borders Wednesday for him to autograph today. To actually SEE him (he spoke) you had to get there early and get a wristband - but WE got in line for the Autographs about half an hour b4 he finished speaking inside. ten people tops - in front of us! Sara was beside herself to actually met an author - she is not too familiar with The Fonz (me - I remember those Happy Days) But, I also remember HOLES - and I loved him as Stanley Yelnats' dad - Stanley Yelnats - and "I don't smell anything" - couldn't talk to him tho as the line - oh the LINE! am I ever glad we got there when we did and hopped right in the line - and waited half an hour - very glad, it was VERY long!!! - Sara got a picture of him - and the three books are now autographed!

The Festival - nice job Mission Viejo - lots of great booths! Ideas for Girl Scouts - (Sara and I were wearing our NEW GS T-Shirts and people noticed) - like places for Service Projects! OH! and KSBR was there too - we stopped and talked to Gary - one of these days I am going to remember his name when I SEE him! We told him we heard about the event on KSBR - they are giving away trips to Catalina again - but I think this year - I will have to pass - can't listen at work - and when I am driving home- they have already finished announcing for the day...

Tahoe 2009

Naegle Bldg 12 - Valley View room - It was really smokey yesterday - Yosemite has a fire and we flew by it on the way up here. We did seven geocaches today - just a few hours including lunch at MickeyD's - An entire football team (high school??) came in there while we were there!

Found three caches we'd looked for last December in the snow - they were deeply buried in the snow then.

Foxhound and Cepheus7 went to the Jacuzzi - I logged the caches - some "newbie" found the darned Horse cache in front of Harrah's and logged "Quick and Easy" she's found 18/19 at the time she logged it!!! We have looked twice with Cepheus7 and not found it :'(

Lake Tahoe for a Week!

Well most of it anyway - then to Sonoma County for a few days - gonna be another hot one I fear - but it is Vacation - and if it's hot then there will be lots of time at the pool - which I don't really like - I can't see without glasses - and don't wear contacts any more - so can't really swim in the pool :(

A Great Weekend
Actually started Friday - Our two Cadettes met with our two leaders - (yup their moms are the leaders!) They actually accomplished quit a bit - they were looking at the IPs and the new Journey and thinking SILVER - I like that - I asked them to take charge in September - They are Ready! DISCOVER CONNECT TAKE ACTION

Then - Saturday - work for 4 hours - came home - Played on FaceBook - went to my 30 yr HS Reunion - Recognized some people - others - nope - not without the name tags - spent most of the time with a friend from 5th grade on - had to leave "early" - but later than I had told my family I was going to - to get sleep for SUNDAY!

The dolphins too, enjoyed the cruise - they play with the Sea Explorer and were leaping out of the water! I even captured one on "film" - fully out of the water.

It was a GREAT Weekend!

FaceBook and Girl Scouts!

Spent WAY too much time hunting HATCHLINGS - Way too much time...

I started a "group" for our Girl Scout Service Unit - and before it was even really ready a buddy requested to join!!

Set some more stuff up on it and sent invites to the Service Unit and - no one else :( But, it is a nice weekend - maybe in the coming week.

Went to the Orange County Girl Scout Council August kick-off this past Tuesday - Only one other person from our Service Unit went with me - funny thing - she's the buddy who is in the GROUP I started today! It was at the Kick-off that I heard to use FaceBook as the platform for the SU site - easier than setting up and entire site on my own, I was told. Boy, was it easy. Only thing is that I can make it fancy - but - the price is right - and for now - it will be great - IF I can get some response! Pictures, Events and other things can be added all right there for the group - EASY!

Tomorrow - I may have a new Daisy Leader to give Orientation to but, have not heard from her - no email replies and I don't have a phone number for her - I just have to show up - just in case - that is a bit frustrating when I don't hear anything... but - I never get tied of where I hold the Orientations - so if no one shows- my daughter and I will just enjoy the oaks for a while - and listen to the birds.

More Geocaching

Friday foxhound and I took Pidude 26 caching - there was a fire at the Fisher Plaza, the building that houses the servers for Geocaching dot com so that causes us to change how we cached. Saturday - GC was back and we came up with some caches for today - Sunday. Pidude found one called "i've fallen and I can't get up" - there are at least eight caches in that immediate area - which i told him - "if we go for that one - we have to look for htese others" "Why?" he asks - I say "If you are going to be passing them and haven't found them yet - ya gotta look for them!" and besides - one of the ATW80 caches (China) was there too -

We ended up only finding 4 of the eight - DNF'd one - decided to not bushwhack one and completely pass on two others (including "I've fallen") too steep and too hot - but we all had fun and Pidude still wants more - so that's the good thing!

so we were going to take a friend geocaching today - but a fire in the Fisher Plaza stopped the original plans - We went to an old favorite park that has two caches that we know of and found those two "letterboxing style" and PiDude26 wants to do more! hoping for the servers to return by tomorrow... we had a great day - anyway - we ran into an old Ranger friend - one we hadn't seen in over a year - one we love and we introduced her to our friend - PiDude26.... we found one "new" cache and discovered two that have been muggled since the last time we found them. he's ready for more - so hoping for the servers (all of them in the building - not just the GC one) to be restored tomorrow!

we tried twice to find a new cache - it is a nano and there is a decoy - found that one - we even had fellow cachers "Boondockers" AND Cepheus7 with us... Pacholik came back after we'd left and found it - darn... gotta go back next weekend - maybe even meet up with the Boondockers again...

GS Camp Out

Last weekend our troop and sister troop 1777 had their first official Camp Out. They all had a great time - wish some of mine would have at least come for the day then changed their minds (the rest of their troop and troop 1777 convincing them that it was ok to stay the night...

My two and the five from 1777 had a blast - mostly they spent their time exploring the creek bed. They found little frogs and "Boy Scouts" If I had know for sure they Were Boy Scouts and the troop they were with - I would informed they pack masters of things the girls said the boys were doing... NOT Boy Scout Safety that is for SURE!

anyway - was also introduced Geocaching to the girls AND "CITO" or Cache in Trash Out - and did a little clean up in the arroyo as we found four caches there - two had not m\been found since 2007 - the girls thot that was pretty cool!

The University of California Davis - Wildlife Health Center began a statewide study in 2008 looking at heavy metal exposure in scavenging birds. Turkey Vulture is one of the species that has been live trapped, tagged, and monitored. The TUVUs are fitted with "large white with black-numbers" patagial (axillary) tags that are easily visible in flight and when perched. Numbers can usually be easily read with binoculars and/or spotting scopes. Please report any sightings with exact location, observer, date, and tag number to BOTH the BBL and the two researchers below:

I want us to go an find some of the Country Caches for the ARW80 series tomorrow - but I want all three of us to go - together - some cachers have already completed the challenge!! They started last Sunday - we saw them at "England" - the cached 72 hours straight!! found all the Countries and the Continents AND "The World"! Some fellow cachers - must be jealous - 'cause they are questioning if these guys had visited ALL the caches themselves... these two say in their logs that others joined them for some caches - I was uncertain about the final "World" if some just tagged along or what - but, if you have 72 hours and you devote it all to finding the caches and solving the puzzles - then - great!! And if you don't have the time - great too - and just because a cacher doesn't log on line - doesn't mean they haven't physically BEEN to the cache - maybe they didn't have access IN THE FIELD to go online for each cache - WE don't - WE must wait till we get home to the computer! So just bcuz a cache- (the Continent Puzzles and THE WORLD Puzzle) isn't logged on line - or any of the COUNTRIES for that matter - doesn't mean these two cachers had not been there...

Going to take the new Ranger on one of the paved road/trails today - going to see if we can get approval for a "new cache"
There is a new SERIES out too - ATW80 80 Caches in total?? one is on the road we are going on - gonna take the Ranger all the way there - first then to our site -

Met Ranger Raul and walked down the road. About a mile to a new Cache - I told him it just published and that I was certain that no one had asked to place it. As we approached GZ - there were two other people there - acting very much like Geocachers... Flashed my GPRs at them as we WERE with a Uniformed person... The Ranger seemed impressed with the entire Geocaching thing - might even look into it himself we think. signed the cache ourselves and he approved of its placement. Headed back towards the car/truck. Found the location for OUR cache and Raul watched as we placed it - came home and posted it it is active already - and about five to seven cacers have looked already!

Well our little troop sold 213 boxes - 105 were "extra boxes" - if we'd done a booth - or two we probably could have done even more...

next is International Day - and we are representing (South) Korea. Our meeting is tomorrow and I have exciting news for the girls - I think...

Then - in May -we are to do a two troop camp out - That will be fun -

Tired - and need to do laundry and find something for dinner - everyone else in the house is busy playing "computer games" of one sort or another...

SO - I am troop leader, Orientation Specialist, Team Member and Cookie Mom. Our little troop didn't do booth sales tho she and I have been visiting all of the rest of our Service Unit's troops at theirs - we have been able to sell nearly 105 extra boxes tho! Very excited about that - VERY!

on the sign in sheet for our Girl Scout Service Unit Meeting tonight I asked for Favorite Color - Out of eleven attending (It was Ash Wednesday - so many were at Church instead of a Girl Scout Meeting) FIVE wrote BLUE.

Still trying to figure out HOW to get more leaders to come - having an older girl for the younger ones to do activities with - so far - a bust - just seems no one seems to think the "One representative from each troop is to be at Each Service Unit Meeting" really means anything... need to figure out an incentive... maybe that Yorba Linda Service Unit has ideas!

A co-worker has been playing Madonna's "Hung Up" all week. Every time I hear the "flute" rift... I feel as is I have heard it B4 - LONG ago - So, I googled something like < "south america" "hung up" madona > - and found that, (even tho I believe the melody comes from even longer ago than ABBA - perhaps a South American "traditional song") Madonna received permission to use ABBA's "flute" theme from Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)

heard that some fellow cachers were up at 4am yesterday in the rain to go caching... crazy - I like to just stay inside and sit by a fire (if we had wood) and watch the rain fall.

Tribble joined Mr Fuzzles in Guinea Pig heaven on June 26th. That entire week was a very bad week (young co-workers thinking that they could pin "missing money" on me because "she's so stupid that she leave money just laying around" which, is completely untrue and other things) - except that we heard that Kabrina's cancer may have shrunk to 1/3rd it's original size.

We went to visit her at CHOC yesterday. We'd planned to go to the CUBE for one last time. and CHOC is JUST a few blocks away. We got her a Webkinz Turtle and spent some time with her and her mom - then part of the treatment was starting to make her feel not so good.

was reminded about the blog site by Pastor Nichole. so here's today's post. we went to Linens n Things and bought new towels and some other stuff - still cost too much even at their "going Out of Business" sale.

Foxhound and I went to a day long training for Girl Scouts - we had found #898 & #899 very close to the training facility and planned to grab #900 in the park directly across the street from the training - after we finished.

The course proved to be "too difficult" for Foxhound - and she "threw in the towel" - tho she REALLY DID get a lot of the info that even the adults were struggling with...

At our table was a "newbie" to Geocaching - she'd just cleared her first 25 finds... we invited her to join us on our #900... which she did... I mentioned before that geocaching is a strange small world... people you never think you'll met - suddenly show up at places you don't expect.... turns out her good friend - is the owner of a cache that gave us FITS and about four visits to find - and in a post he'd written that he took some "newbies" with him to verify that it was still there - when WE were still trying to find it... SHE was the "newbie"!

Strange Small World

We geocache - www.geocaching.com for everthing you want to know.

We found it accidentally. At O'Neill Regional Park where we volunteer. A stack of pages and a green decon container... the container was found by Rangers - way off trail. They asked if we knew about "this geocaching thing" - nope - found out and contacted the owner of the container and three other caches in the same area - all requiring bushwhacking which - is not allowed in the park...

We have now over 700 finds and I recently became a Girl Scout Leader. Had to take training. Second night of the meeting we are to write activities our girls might enjoy under pre-written titles on large sheets of paper. I write GEOCACHING - the one dad in the class comes in and ask "who wrote geocaching"? I did! - He says they know about it, they do it, but haven't been in a while - doesn't exactly remember his caching name... I know a cacher with HIS real first name - the one on his name tag. So I ask his last name - !!! It matches the name of the cacher I know! I say - YOU are "oc_bobwhite !!!" YOU are the reason WE cache!!!

I find out he just needs to get equipment fixed - replaced - I was beginning to think we'd caused him to stop caching - because of the Rangers at the Park...

We spent the weekend in Las Vegas (Dec 1-3). When we returned home Foxhound found her guinea pig, Mr. Fuzzles, laying in his cage, dead. His cage mate was rather upset... and squeaked when we took Mr. Fuzzles out.

Foxhound was very sad but, since we have no idea how old either Guinea Pig is as we adopted both of them... she is taking the entire event very well. We buried him Monday evening. No plans to get a new one.

I am the only one in my house awake (except for the dog) right now and it is 8am!
Listening to DJ on KSBR ON the computer. Saturday: "A Whole 'Nuther Thing" Bob Goodman's annual Harry Chapin show. wonder WHERE my HArry Chapin CD got off to this time.

Dog has been "banished". He seems to think he must be on my lap - always - but, he's just enought too big that he can't get comfortable in my lap and then jumps to the chair next to me. Still feeling the need to be WITH me he paws at me making it nearly impossible to type or use the mouse. THIS gets him "banished" to the other side of the closed door. SO - he lays in the hallway waiting for me...

Daisy Girl Scouts (GS) Ages 5 and 6 K-Grade 1
Brownie GS Ages 6 to 8 Grades 1 - 3
Junior GS * Ages 8 to 11 Grades 3 - 6
Girl Scouts 11 - 13 Grades 6 - 8 "?? Old Juniors - Young Cadettes"
Girl Scouts 13 - 15 Grades 8 - 10 "Cadettes"
Girl Scouts 15 - 17 Grades 10 - 12 "Seniors"

JUNIORS are sometimes refered to as "Girl Scouts" and nothing else... often by people familiar with "Boy Scouts" ALL of the above listed age ranges and levels are GIRL SCOUTS - even the little "Daisy GIRL SCOUTS" ALL of them.

Foxhound was trying to figure out who's where in our new troop and how many "Brownie Scouts" we have. I believe that answer is "one". A "Bunch" of Daisies (LOL) and a few Juniors.

Anyway - had I told her that Brownies are "7" then a week from now when I would tell her that they can be "6 - 8" - she tell me "you lied to me" - thus the "don't carve it in stone" that I told her earlier this week.

It can be a bit confusing with the overlaps... it is how Foxhound is a second (or third??) year Junior THIS year. heck - even I am confused.

It gets too dark too soon! Foxhound is now mad at me... Flashlight in someones eye that was walking in the other direction and I told her... "don't shine it in peoples eyes" Then on the way home (we baled on the other two caches RIGHT near here) she asked me a question that I was unsure of the answer. I told her I wasn't sure so don't lock it in stone... then she starts saying "never mind then" . Fine. I tell her to stop talking and that I would too.

She just keeps on and on pushing and pushing.
I wonder... does she act like this at school?? Is THIS how she "gets into trouble" there???
