Geocache Containers

Spent a few hours to day making some geocache containers from those plastic "bubbles" that come from the vending machines that kids feed quarters to -to get "cool prizes" but, never the ones that are one the pictures.

I made some a while ago but, need to replace a cache that seems to go missing.  I am hoping that THESE will stay longer.  I think they just might blend a bit better.

I use wire from hangers, a candle, Liquid Nail and the little "bubbles".

This morning when I looked for my wire snips... nope, not where I thought they were.  So, off to Lowes I go!  I also picked up a new set of Visp Grips (tools are cool).

Now to chop the hanger.  The first one is easy 'cus it is already bent to nearly the right shape.  Measure the next two and shape them. (one end with a "right-angle" bend about a quarter inch long).

Light a (scented) candle.  Take the cap from the "bubble", hold that bent end of the (hanger) wire to the candle flame for about ten seconds, push it thru the center of the cap. Let it cool.

Next is the creative part.  I use the Liquid Nail in the can NOT the tubes.  I place a little blob on the inside of the cap to hold the "right-angle" bend,  Let that dry.  Meanwhile, I lightly coat the "bubble" parts with Liquid Nail".  Spray paint sticks better to it than to the plastic.  Set those aside.  By now the cap is set and I sculpt the rough texture on the lids.  Hang them to dry.

Once the parts are dry, I spray paint them.

And now, the "bubbles" are little "Acorns" that can hide in Oak Trees!

Last week when we meet with the Junior Troop I only had the "bubble" but, I told them that I had made "Acorns".

STYX

As I was logging on to Blog - I see a friend has posted "Listen to Styx "Come Sail Away" while you read this..."  on Feb 26. 2013 -- so, I pulled them up on youtube: http://youtu.be/e5MAg_yWsq8 - and listened & read.

I had not thought of the song in years.  What she wrote fit the song so well.  Very pretty piano too.  "Carry ON!" and "memories - some happy some sad..."

Oh! and the Band's hair - I LOVE the hair!
Completely side-track now - I have to get back to what I was going to blog before - until then

Come Sail Away....

Geocaching & Junior Girl Scouts and a "Passion for Cachin' "

Foxhound has a Geocache that was placed for her by a follow geocacher back when we first started caching.  I have it on our watchlist. It is called "Passion for Cachin' "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=26716a33-a9cf-42aa-a067-f5edd7ef08ac

Last week I received an email that someone *a new cacher* had found it.  It was their FIRST find!  I send a welcome email - a few more back and forth - we are both Girl Scout Leaders and we both know DopeyDuck, another cacher. In fact this new cacher is IN Dopey's Service Unit!   She asks if my girls can come to their meeting on February 22nd to teach about Geocaching.

February 22nd is World Thinking Day - the joint Birthday of Lord & Lady Baden-Powell - the founders of Scouting in England & good friends of Juliette Gordon Lowe - founder of Girl Scouts in the USA!  - We will be getting patches to give to this troop of Juniors - because although we are from different Countries (World Thinking Day is when Girl Scouts & Guides World-Wide think about their sister scouts EVERYWHERE) we are different troops and different Service Units.

I say yes. But, as my girls are nearly all in High School and almost always busy on Fridays -- I say that I can have two there - Foxhound & Nat -- then we find out Nat is singing at a very special event --- in Hollywood (Sunday Feb 24th) She has been working for MONTHS with her choir...

So it is just me and Fox.   She was mostly quiet for the entire time.  Says she never knows what to say in front of people she doesn't know.  That is fine except that I was hoping for it to be "girl teaching girls".

We brought a bag full of different containers - ready to hide and in their "original form"     We had print-outs from the Geocaching.com website. We had our pink "My Little Pony Geo-Stuff backpack".  We talked about the different sizes and types of caches and some of the terms.  We shared our special Travel Bugs and explained that most travel from cache to cache AROUND the WORLD
  and I just talked.
The girls asked questions.
No script - just "winging it" - It was great!

Then we all went out and drove to the park where Fox & I found our FIRST Multi-Cache - Our FIRST FTF (First to Find) AND our FIRST encounter with other Geocachers (in the field) and THEY turned out to be the hiders of the FIRST cache that  Foxhound & I ever found!  The "Cache of FIRSTS".  It is still there and it is "Pinecrest Wilderness Walk Multi" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1604604a-2ca7-4590-aaeb-dd7b159b24cd
The cache we actually went there to find is "Rancho Trabuco GS Patch Letterbox Cachehttp://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=27fb3bf0-07d6-4609-8313-a08938e438d0

That birdhouse above their heads is part of an Eagle Scout Project!

After this we drove back to find Passion for Cachin'

It truly seemed the girls had a great time
- I hope we managed to cover most of what they needed to earn the Geacaching Badge!  I had a very good time - I love teaching others about Geocaching!

TICKS

About three weeks ago (January 29th 2013) A calf was born to Glenda the Diary Cow at Amy's Farm in Ontario. Foxhound & I went to see him when he was just 9 days old.  SO cute!  Glenda was eating when he became very uninterested in just standing next to her and romped off to the other end of the pen/corral.  Suddenly, Glenda notices he's gone!  Very lowly she calls for him "Mmmoooooo?" - turned her head and spotted him.  She then followed him - all was well again.

Yesterday 02.23.2013 was an other Saturday - and just 2 weeks later.  We stop by Amy's again to see the baby.  But, he is really GONE!  We learn that he was sold for the Milk Share Program there at the farm.  But, this week there are baby sheep.  LAMBS.  They were busy napping in the shade but, cute none the less.

Foxhound is off to find the cats -- we thought there were just three.  Today we discovered there are closer to TEN.  Including a large whitish Tom with a piece of his ear missing... He has a striped tail (like a raccoon!) but, very leery of people - he kept his distance.  The little grey female tabby was more than willing to get petted - tiny little voice.  She will follow you if you let her.

We continue to visit the other animals. Including, Wilbur, the pig. Foxhound only likes the very small pigs (piglets only for her).  Me, I find it kinda funny that ALL the animals at the farm (except "Tom") like to be petted!  So, I go over to Wilbur's pen and I call his name.  He jumps up (yes, pig jumped to his feet) and runs over to me!    Just like the story - this Wilbur was the runt of his litter.  He does not have Charlotte - that I saw.  He DOES however have far creepier "friends".  I start scratching his head when Foxhound comes over and informs me that he has TICKS!  hmmm ---- yes - he sure did! Many many ticks just wandering around.... weird because I never noticed before and none of the other animals seem to have them... I tell Wilbur that we must leave --- Ticks creep Foxhound out more than anything else that I know of.

We say goodbye to the other animal friends we have met there - we learned the name of the BIG Brown Swiss "Granma Tina" --- I love her BIG furry ears!

We get in the car to leave.   Foxhound had changed the radio station before we arrived to GO COUNTRY... I burst into laughter --- Brad Paisley is singing...  http://youtu.be/3tiPndMqxLQ  "TICKS"

"now that's a girly geeky blog...TFTW!!!"

So - once again I have gone *months* without blogging.
Received an email message that a Waymarker had visited.
oh - and for those who are not geocacher or waymarkers -
TFTW!!! = Thanks For The Waymark!!!"

Girly? 'cuz it's "pink"?
Geeky - yeah I will admit THAT one - but, the "Girly"
-- really? gonna hafta to do something about that!

Foxhound for sure is NOT girly and I will never claim to be myself.

But, Hey I am here blogging about it none the less
-- the Waymarker/Geocacher who found us this time is "ClanCampbellChandler" from San Diego & Arizona and seems to be a "mega-cacher"  at least in the past week or so....
74 caches in the first 15 days of the year! KUDOS to that!
All I can say is - I wish I had that kind free time to cache on the weekends!
I keep trying to get our Girl Scout Troop together for a cache-day -- Every time -- it is raining - and YES - then we'd have a Girly problem -- no rain caching for most of them :)

Typing from work while answering phones, not a good idea.
I had to enter the url for this blog today when I replied to another blog called "Walk Simply" - she posts often and hikes in some of my favorite OC Parks. This time it was Riley Wilderness Park (really need to get back there)
THAT got me thinking about pasting another blog too.

So much has happened since September 3rd.
But, the most special and memorable was this:

On December 22nd we attended a celebration for Kabrina - it would have been her "sweet sixteen" birthday --- friends & family remembering and celebrating the time we had with her. Then we wrote messages on white balloons and went outside.  Her family released their balloons first, then the rest of us released ours --- it was simply, beautiful.

Not a Very Good Week...

Labor Day 2012

Today has been good.  We placed four new caches on the Arroyo Trail today with Cepheus7 - first thing we saw on the trail was a bounding Mule Deer -Doe.  Way too many bikes today!
The Creek crossing @ Santa Margarita Bridge has been completely re-worked! As long as there are no major storms this is a really nice fix!

GC3R4WH Multi-cache !Got Spam? Then, Walk On Thru - Multi Cache

GC3R2M5 Traditional Cache !A Cache Belongs HERE

GC3R2KM Traditional Cache !Quercus agrifolia, the Coast Live Oak

GC3R2KV Traditional Cache !Two "Syc" Oaks

Waiting for approval...

Sunday -- pretty much did absolutely nothing!

Saturday -- Foxhound & I lead the Nature Hike @ O'Neill - started that hike with the sighting of THREE Mule Deer - a Buck, a Doe and a smaller one - but, not a "fawn".  Than we were off to a Bowling Party of one of Foxhound's friends in Irvine... we tried & failed to find two geocaches near the bowling alley - then home for some BBQ Hamburgers YUM.

Friday - started out REALLLLLLY bad!!!
I had taken Thursday & Friday off to take Foxhound to part 3 & 4 of High School Registration.   I opened an email that was sent Thursday afternoon.
It was from Karen Cressey... Kabrina's Mom... it said, "We are very sad to report that our beautiful and courageous daughter and sister, Kabrina passed away last night around 9pm PST.  We are missing her terribly, but are comforted in knowing that her pain and long suffering is over.  We smile knowing that she is with the Lord dancing and singing once again.
In His Love,
Karen, Brian, and Austin"

I was in tears @ 7:30am when I woke Foxhound up... at least the Link Crew Orientation @ THHS was Awesome for Foxhound.... a very sad day.

Thursday - was day 3 of 4 of the THHS Registration stuff - it was well planned & went very smoothly... we also went to Santiago Oaks Regional Park to meet with Ranger Steve for an upcoming Geo-Event for park professionals...

Wed - backwards to Monday - they were just more days of the same thing...

Better times next week...

Girl Scouts Rock the OC Fair

We went to the OC Fair on Friday ... It was OC Girl Scouts (100th Birthday Celebration) Rock the Fair!  $3 tickets $2 taste of the Fair til 4pm ..  Foxhound Bridged with over a 1,00 other girls - We sawa piglets that were just one day old.  Always amazes me how animals like that can WALK already!  Foxhound discovered Krispy Kreme Chicken Sandwiches she let me have two bites - it was surprisingly good!
Just a short blog this time.

Cinco de Mayo 2012

Foxhound & I went to the Norman P Murray Center in Mission Viejo, CA yesterday for Breakfast with Gary & Kelly (KSBR 88.5FM radio show on Saturday mornings) It was a Live Broadcast!  Their special guest was Michael Lington - Sax-man from Denmark.  I have loved saxophone since about 5th grade!  Michael is great!  These live shows are SO fun - the artists are always so personable so real so down to earth! I took my KSBR hat that has Craig Chaquico's autograph already and had Michael add his!

There was an event at the Center this weekend too & I just learned that we MISSEDKori Linae Carothers! The event was Arts Alive. we walked around a bit then left to do some waymarking and geocaching in Dana Point & Aliso Beach.

First we went to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point - the EarthCache there was part two of the San Onofre Breccia.  This is a formation that is 15 to 20 million years old. It is a sedimentary rock composed of angular fragments (clasts) embedded in a fine grained matrix (glue that binds the clasts together) We had to compare the two outcroppings by visiting both in one day.

At Dana Point - Foxhound decided that we MUST visit the tide-pools too.  At least the parking HERE is FREE!

Off to Aliso Beach we go.  Here there are parking meters but, gladly plenty of parking still available!

Two weeks ago we came to Laguna Beach on the 5th annual Record Store Day to visit The Sound Spectrum to add it to the category for Independent Music Stores. But, since we were there - we figured we would cache & waymark as well.  There was a Webcam listed as being there! Webcams are FUN because you need to have a friend at a computer to "catch you" on the webcam and then save that image for you to post on the waymark site for that camera. Sadly, we discovered that the posted coordinates were no where NEAR the actual camera. We did learn where the camera was.  AT ALISO BEACH!

Since the second part of the EarthCache was here and there were two other waymarks AND a geocache - it was well worth the $2 we feed the metered parking boxes.  We phoned our friend - Cepheus7 - and he caught us!  The thing about the webcams is usually they are far enough away that you can not REALLY tell who is in the picture. We took a sign which barely looks like a white square!

Missions accomplished!  I let Foxhound play in the waves - and get very nearly completely soaked!  We saw a dolphin out in the breakers.

Beautiful day!

Hail

Yesterday was St Patrick's Day - Foxhound & I went to a Geo-Event the tried and failed to find a cache nearby... Failed.  It was a rainy day and night. Then today we had hail twice. Storm breaking up so I suggest we try to find a cache or two - FAILED both.... it is windy and cold - Foxhound not liking either one...

Reggae Showcase is playing on KSBR...that's good
But, my Firefox keeps crashing... that is bad.

posted our Geocaching Fails.... someone else at the Geo-Event found the cache near there - they must be stronger than us - we found something but, just couldn't get it open...

Doggie Romeo keeps bugging me - thinks he needs treats & pets more than the computer needs me. Silly dog!

busy week coming- Girl Scout Delegate Meeting and our Troop Meeting (we are geocaching!)

What is Traffic - How Much do I get - How do I tell?

I was doing a survey today - it asked if I had my own blog - what did I write about? - how much traffic did I get?...  I don't know - I did find something - will add it from home - but, the traffic gizmo they asked about - I have no clue - tried to find out more - closed the window before I clicked the more link - opps...

better luck next time.

Waymark Visit... Geocaching and Girl Scouts

We received a Waymark visit from  gemeloj in St-Mathias - Montreal... and thought we should update again...  We just get so busy and I forget to blog.

Anyway - this visit from the Waymarker prompted me to add this - seems the Waymarker is also a Geocacher and a "decoder" - hmmmm we wonder.... we NEED a lifeline for a new cache... it is STUMPING everyone - or - if someone has solved and found - they aren't posting... sent a lifeline request - we shall see....

Yesterday Foxhound and I grabbed a rare FTF (YEAH HAPPY DANCE) - see the cache/post here>>> http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f1adf5b9-ca68-46d9-8a98-adccfdc9c50a
also we grabbed a cache we have just been driving by nearby - without the coordinates... We knew the general location - but, just never stopped to look - THIS time we were on foot - it was much easier!

 Girl Scout Cookie Time!
Our troop still has several cases left and NO booth sales this year.

Our Service Unit Meeting is this Wednesday - February 22nd - World Thinking Day - Tradition - Ceremonies -  yes - I am presenting something at the meeting. Usually, I do a "Training 20" but, this time - a World Thinking Day Ceremony - one that many others have used - Tradition! since 1926 - the Birthday of BOTH Lord and Lady Baden-Powell - the founder of Scouting (in Europe) & his wife - He was 36? years her senior.... has been celebrated as World Thinking Day - when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the World think about their sister scouts...

Today is a holiday - Presidents' Day - I go to work - Foxhound gets to stay home.

til next time....
hope I get here more often.
thank-you gemeloj for reminding me that I forgot - again - about our blog!

It's July Already

We made a Black Forest Dump Cake this past weekend - for 4th of July - first time that Dad ever actually had any - cuz it is always gone when we make it for Girl Scouts!

Using the little red wagon and box oven right next to the BBQ is funny - but, the box oven is cool - Foxhound wants to do the Vagabond and Buddy Burners - maybe this weekend - just to practice - they aren't as efficient - but, I remember making breakfast on them during camp-outs - and I remember them getting really hot and someone getting burned!

I really should be getting something ready for dinner - but - blogging is more fun - and besides everyone else in the house is either chillin watching videos - or playing games on the xBox   - why should I be "working" in the kitchen - besides - it is too warm for cooking!

Happy SUMMER!

June 3-5 CAMP-OUT!

Well, that Junior Troop did not make the camp-out but, THREE Cadette Troops did! Our troop - 1126, Troop 1576 - who was with us on our last camp-out and Troop 32 form Capo Valley - their first time tent camping!
It was SO much fun meeting new friends
- cooking on Charcoals
- making DUMP CAKES

- the Black Forest Cherry Cake is definitely the favorite.

Dutch Ovens and Box Ovens are truly amazing pieces of camping gear.  Next time - I want to try CHICKEN!
Each troop shared a craft or project - we shared Wire Pant Hanger Cooking Skewers - which we used for the dinner (and S'mores - we also gave the first time campers "John Wayne" can openers to take with them, to always Be Prepared (and to never be without a can opener) plus a Whisk Broom for their tent.

The birds woke me up each morning around 5:30 - WOW are they loud! SO many different species too.  Phoebes, Acorn Woodpeckers, Flickers, CROWS, Ducks?! Red-Shouldered Hawks and one I couldn't recognize - maybe a Whip-poor-will?

It was a great weekend!

May 2011

Mother's Day last week end - I asked to go check on some of our Caches - and to find one without coordinates. I love finding caches - without the coords! We took GeoPup Romeo and he had to SNIFF everything - too much sniffing causes SNEEZES!

Busy week and it is gonna get worse - next weekend a GeoEvent for Girls in SU RT2
Foxhound is one of the Cadettes helping Dopey - she went with Dopey yesterday to grab coordinates for the event. She needs to put together a cache by next Sunday - she claims she is TOO BUSY with homework - she is playing Minecraft & chatting on Skype with a friend right now - so - where is the "TOO BUSY"????

Still need to get more film canisters for CITO kits for the event - gonna try a few more Targets - and our favorite Photo store one more time before Sunday. They are SO difficult to find now with nearly everyone going "DIGITAL"

First weekend in June is our second multi-troop camp-out - we need to do a practice day with the Junior troop - haven't heard for sure that they can meet with us - and our troop needs to plan their dinner - thoughts are to do the same as last time - they have done it once - and it was easy - they pretty much handled it on their own - while I was busy with the Dump Cakes - Dutch Ovens and Box Ovens!

that's it for now.

Happy Resurection Sunday

Is that the new "politically correct" name?

Well, another busy Girl Scout week ahead - and Sara just told me she's  not sure she wants to continue... disappointed in the troop turn out for the meetings - says "we're not a "troop" two of the girls of our total of five are rarely if ever there. and they keep changing the formats and the new journeys are"cheesey"..."  - I told her that she and I could be Independents - We aren't sure if our oldest girl will be continuing - she's graduating to High School - I am not happy.

Yesterday - I used a gift card three places: first, to get my car a much needed oil change, about $30 @ Target  & last, a new cabin air filter - (which replaced one that was only about 6 months old ) because the guy @ Jiffy Lube told me (and SHOWED me) that the one I had was full of junk... and "grey" - which is by the way the color it STARTS out!!! - Some of the "junk" was RAT droppings~!???????!!? Not so sure I believe them there - but, even @ the store I got the filter at - they say it actually happened to them  a SQUIRREL got into the engine and chewed the wires & made a nest!

Crazy.

well, Girl Scout Spring Renewal is happening soon - on-line this year - we'll see - I really do not want Sara to quit...  next year is our 100 year anniversary!

So many blogs so little time

I mean to blog way more often than I ever do...
meant to way back in October.. when nut sales started and we had a four troop camp out and that flew by - then other weekends and those flew too - then cookie sales and a friend's passing - it ALL flew by.

Now - it seems pointless to post the old news

Tonight daughter and husband are playing Laser Tag with other Girl Scouts - they are both XBox (360) gamers so Sara was REALLY excited to do a LIVE game....

I am making a promise to try to get here once a week - I will try to do my best!

Cacophany

Well, not exactly – “disharmonic” or even “dissonance”.

But, definitely very loud! Every morning dozens of birds sing their lungs out – Sparrows (probably house), Finches (we see mostly House), Hummingbirds, Orioles, Mocking Birds, Mourning Doves, sometimes Crows and even Geese! Always, they begin before the first alarm, 5:30am or earlier.  I wish I could identify them all by their calls… I know people who can. I only know for sure the Oriole, Mourning Dove, (Anna’s) Hummingbirds, and Crows.

This morning I decided to “get up with them". I needed to check things on the computer. There are two benchmarks that may or may not be “discovered by us later today when we go to the Outdoor Center behind Irvine Regional Park for the Orange County Girl Scout Recognition Picnic; I have been told to attend; as I am one of the recipients of the “Spot Light Award” this year. I don’t trust the listed coordinates. I use Google Earth and the “to reach” descriptions. One matches – one does not – so – it is a “we’ll see” kinda thing – I have two other sets of eyes to help.

and
Memorial Day 2010 –

Last weekend was a Saturday that I work half day. Afterward, Foxhound and I went to the Villa Park Towne Centre to grab six Waymarks and add two or three more. Then – there were four more benchmarks I wanted to find and add to www.waymarking.com. THREE of them along Santiago Canyon Road outside Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. I had told Foxhound that parking inside the cemetery was safest – then walk to the three benchmarks. We discovered a sea of American Flags at the Cemetery!!! One stood out as it was MUCH larger than all the others and Foxhound insisted we go to that one.

There, we met Joel K Brattain – Bronze Star and Purple Heart – 21 ½ year old Hero. I took a picture of Foxhound there – it might just replace my favorite picture of her and the white rose…

Tushita Heaven

On the Fridays we don't have Girl Scouts - usually I just come home - but, DJ posted on FB that Kori Linae Carothers would be the guest Artist - and we'd met her last time we were there to see Scott August - so I told Sara that I'd swing by home and we'd race over there - for Kori. John Luttrell was there too - and they played together - it was amazing.

till next time...

Scott August!

last night Sara and I went to Tushita Heaven http://www.tushitaheaven.com/ in San Juan Capistrano to see our favorite Native American flute player - Scott August http://www.cedarmesa.com/lostcanyons/index.html He had a great turn out of people to listen to him - and as a bonus - we also met Kori Linae Carothers and John Luttrell were in the audience! Scott play music from his new album - Radiant Sky - it was an amazing night

Rainy Saturday

Saturday February 6, 2010 - It is raining- so no hike at O'Neill Regional... We had to take care of some Girl Scout errands - Bank to deposit Cookies Now Money and the Post Office to get Over Seas Stamps - then what??? Sara ALWAYS wants to know what we are doing AFTER.

So while I was waiting for her to get up - I farmed my FarmVille Farm... noticed a new sign - It was probably a glitch that caused the sign to be from "?" but I knew from that message - it came from a friend who works at a "REAL" farm - in San Juan Capistrano!! She had some REALLY exciting news... THEN - DJ on KSBR says that Scott August will be at a store called Tushita Heaven next Friday (02.12.10)... I had never heard of the store - so - I Google-Earthed it. In the intersection by Zia Jewelers, the Mission and Starbucks??? - must go in person to find it....

I raced up-stairs and said to Sara; "I know what we're going to do today Ferb" - that's from Disney's Phineas and Ferb for those who might not know... I told her - we had to do the GS stuff - then San Juan - had to re-new our Annual Pass at the Mission too - and of course there are the Blueberry Bagels with Berry Cream Cheese and a "new Store" and ~ZOOMARS~

took care of the Girl Scout stops and got DRENCHED in the down pour while I was getting gas for the car...

Down Antonio to San Juan! This time - since there is a new park (Los Rios Park) near the Mission and Zoomars.. we parked there instead of our normal lot - besides with the weather - we'd get less wet - First, we went to the Mission to do the renewal thing - They had an awesome book about the Mission this time when you re-newed! We walked around a little bit - the fish were nearly swimming out of their fountains! water was to the very brim! One golden Koi kept putting its nose (?) and chubby cheeks - yes - it has chubby cheeks! - out of the water!

We left the Mission to find the "new" store - I told Sara that Google Earth had it in the Starbucks building - wrong... and it wasn't in the Zia Building either - no store there is big enough for Scott August to play and people see him... What about the Ruby's building?? hadn't been there in a really long time - and there are several levels to that one... up stairs - around and THERE - there's the sign - around and down! Open the door - WOW! this place is BIG! and zoom - a white and brown blurr races past us! A "dog" store!! We spent at least a half hour there - a really cool place - "Enlightened Living" is the rest of the store's name. Sara's first spot - (besides the dog) was the polished stones - we ended up getting two - mine - a Kyanite - her's, she doesn't remember it's name but it is teal in color. The dog - he lives for visitors to play tennis ball with him - which - we both did...

next - Sara is hungry - she wants one of those bagels... thankfully the rain is holding off and we walk to the parking lot where we usually park - and The Bagel Shack! These bagels are really good! Next time tho I want to try one of those sandwiches!

I was figuring that Zoomars might not be open due to the rain -- but there was that sign at my FarmVille.... we walked down Los Rios and towards Zoomars... it's OPEN! and my friend is at the entry booth - I ask her about the triplets... and she grabs some feed baskets says "You saw the sign! - they are behind the shed go see them" We got to go in their pen with their mom and three other expectant goats. OHHHH so cute!! And Mommy goat - she was the biggest of the four and nearly pure white - was SOOO hungry! She ate almost all the carrots and other veggies. The three babies were jumping and falling and climbing and falling and getting on top of the other mommy-to-be's backs and falling and shaking it off to do it all over again! They went to Mom and nursed - and back to playing. I spent most of my time petting one of the other goats - she just stood there leaning her head into me. It is relaxing to pet any animal - especially when the animal needs to relax too.

We left the goats - back to the car - and Sara insists that we play on the playground - I let Her do all the playing. The Clouds are rolling in (fast) - Sara we gotta go.... and we still have a few more stops to make! We stopped by Michael's and Chick-Fil-A (bought 3 sandwiches to-go/one was free!) on the way home - enjoyed the afternoon rain from inside the house.

Hoffman Homestead Trail -

with the Jewish Hikers group.

I kinda forgot about my blog - been busy and some times - thot of blogging - that sidetracked...

Anyway - today we (Sara and I) went with this group that I used to hike with often. They were heading out of O'Neill Regional Park to the Monastery at the end of Hoffman Homestead Trail - we'd never been actually IN the monastery and had heard about their shrine to the Major Religions and told Sara that I wanted to see it. http://www.vedanta.org/vssc/centers/tours/trabtrail.html for their website - It was a long hike for Sara but, she did it - and several of the adults - talked to her - one - Barbara - a professional artist from Montana - quite a bit - Sara enjoyed that.

We dodged the rain, it started several hours after we came home - beautiful cool day for the hike! and - no cougars.

ROMEO: Staffordshire Bull Terrier - Australian Shepard - Boxer -

SO I ordered a DNA test from PetCo for Romeo our "Beagle-Whippet" per the Mission Viejo Shelter. All were listed in the "in-the-mix" category meaning he is a Full-Blooded Mutt. But, we knew that, and I knew there was NO Beagle there. Boxer??? Sure he always seemed to especially like them at the dog parks and Boxer owners say their dogs KNOW other boxers from other dogs (??) But he looks nothing like a boxer. And that Australian Shepard thing... lots of people have guessed that about Romeo - but WHERE is the LONG fur???? He didn't get the fur!!!

Staffordshire Bull Terrier... I can see the hind quarters - strong and similar to the Whippet and Greyhound - built for speed and running - yes - that I can agree with - 100% but, his legs and feet... Romeo's feet are sleek and slender and he has longish toes like the whippet and greyhound. He is not so stocky - barrel chest - yes - always I saw that - THAT for sure - but wow - maybe we'll go with the extend version - it can tag nearly 100 breeds - maybe.

Saw something about the Staffordshire that they particularly like children - again lots of dogs do - and Romeo has always tended towards them - "asking" for pets from them first....

From the Westminster Kennel Club: The first impression of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is that of strength, intelligence and tenacity. The alert stance, big smile and wagging tail with which he welcomes all human visitors confirm the breed standard's call to show its "...affection for its friends and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability." Although originally bred for the pit many years ago, the Staffordshire is best known today as a foremost all-purpose family dog with a steady and dependable nature, outstanding athletic ability in the performance sports of agility and flyball, and the intelligence to be successful in the obedience ring.

Read the "NAture of the Beast" on the SBTCA site - and even if it is "in the mix" much of the description of that breed fits Romeo - so again - maybe - DNA doesn't lie on CSI...

Girl Scouts and Movies

GIRLS SCOUTS ROCK!

This weekend Sara and I led four short hikes for Service Unit RT2 - for their SU Camp-Out at O'Neill Regional Park... They gave us thank-you cards with a special treat for a movie! We went today to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Very good - better than I expected! We started seeing the previews during our vacation in August at Tahoe.... Sara has read the book - she says, several times we even gave the book to the book drive thru Borders. Alan Parsons Project is featured in the soundtrack!!! I was enjoying the SIMON door-code-lock when all of a sudden there was Sirius playing in the background!!!

Something else in the movie made me think of Big Bang Theory and Sheldon.

I love Nerds!

Acorn Day October 18th - O'Neill Regional Park

I guess the Rangers wished it was bigger.

But I was very please with the showing of Girl Scouts!! Service Units from Garden Grove - Orange - Lake Forest - Aliso Viejo - RSM - and a few others too!

Our 10am hike was a blast -- nearly all Girl Scouts! I included a talk under my favorite Oak on the Water Tank Road. We had a smaller hike at 3:30 and it too was very well received.

Our groups always thank us and tell us were were great - but a Jackson Browne comes to mind - nearly every time "...Tonight the people were so fine, they waited there in line And when they got up on their feet, they made the show ... People you've got the power over what we do, You can sit there and wait or you can pull us through Come along, sing the song You know that you can't go wrong..."

I love when I can feel the groups connect and respond! Not saying what we do is "a show" but - the people make it for us - when a kid has a reaction to what I say - and I KNOW the kid "GETS IT" - I am blessed!

Thank-you to all who attended Acorn Day this year - YOU MADE MY DAY!

Henry Winkler and Betta Fish

Chase is airing "spotlight company" commercials - "-cause they're *NEW* to California" - this week was "Pacific Reef Tropical Fish" - I got the coupon - now where's the location? Hey - there's one on the way home from work! Tried Friday - but - they were all out and said another shipment was coming at 4pm - um - "tomorrow?" I ask - they said they should still have some - today after work - on our way to the Readers' Festival - I stopped by again -- this time with Sara - I told her I had wanted to surprise her yesterday but that they ran out of the fish. The coupon was for the fish and a "Disco Betta" starter kit. they said the fish had gone MUCH faster then they expected! We had to buy food and water conditioner - but I had just received a $25 gift card this week - SOO - FREE FISHY!

Now, as I said - "on our way to the Reader's Festival"
http://missionviejolife.org/2009/08/25/henry-winkler-headlines-mission-viejo-readers-festival/
- in Mission Viejo - to see Henry Winkler - he writes kids books (and I'll bet you thot he was just "the Fonz") - the Hank Zipzer: The World’s Most Amazing Underachiever series. We bought 3 of the books at Borders Wednesday for him to autograph today. To actually SEE him (he spoke) you had to get there early and get a wristband - but WE got in line for the Autographs about half an hour b4 he finished speaking inside. ten people tops - in front of us! Sara was beside herself to actually met an author - she is not too familiar with The Fonz (me - I remember those Happy Days) But, I also remember HOLES - and I loved him as Stanley Yelnats' dad - Stanley Yelnats - and "I don't smell anything" - couldn't talk to him tho as the line - oh the LINE! am I ever glad we got there when we did and hopped right in the line - and waited half an hour - very glad, it was VERY long!!! - Sara got a picture of him - and the three books are now autographed!

The Festival - nice job Mission Viejo - lots of great booths! Ideas for Girl Scouts - (Sara and I were wearing our NEW GS T-Shirts and people noticed) - like places for Service Projects! OH! and KSBR was there too - we stopped and talked to Gary - one of these days I am going to remember his name when I SEE him! We told him we heard about the event on KSBR - they are giving away trips to Catalina again - but I think this year - I will have to pass - can't listen at work - and when I am driving home- they have already finished announcing for the day...

and the fish - everyone was asking us where we got him - his name: "Henry W"

Tahoe 2009

Naegle Bldg 12 - Valley View room - It was really smokey yesterday - Yosemite has a fire and we flew by it on the way up here. We did seven geocaches today - just a few hours including lunch at MickeyD's - An entire football team (high school??) came in there while we were there!

Found three caches we'd looked for last December in the snow - they were deeply buried in the snow then.

Foxhound and Cepheus7 went to the Jacuzzi - I logged the caches - some "newbie" found the darned Horse cache in front of Harrah's and logged "Quick and Easy" she's found 18/19 at the time she logged it!!! We have looked twice with Cepheus7 and not found it :'(

Lake Tahoe for a Week!

Well most of it anyway - then to Sonoma County for a few days - gonna be another hot one I fear - but it is Vacation - and if it's hot then there will be lots of time at the pool - which I don't really like - I can't see without glasses - and don't wear contacts any more - so can't really swim in the pool :(

There might be geocaching and horse back riding too

time will tell

08.15.09-08.16.09

A Great Weekend
Actually started Friday - Our two Cadettes met with our two leaders - (yup their moms are the leaders!) They actually accomplished quit a bit - they were looking at the IPs and the new Journey and thinking SILVER - I like that - I asked them to take charge in September - They are Ready! DISCOVER CONNECT TAKE ACTION

Then - Saturday - work for 4 hours - came home - Played on FaceBook - went to my 30 yr HS Reunion - Recognized some people - others - nope - not without the name tags - spent most of the time with a friend from 5th grade on - had to leave "early" - but later than I had told my family I was going to - to get sleep for SUNDAY!

The Ocean Institute in Dana Point http://www.ocean-institute.org/programs/index.html - We went on the 88.5FM KSBR Morning Breeze Cruise - with guest Artist SCOTT AUGUST http://www.cedarmesa.com/ !! He called a Blue Whale with an awesome "Grandfather Cedar Flute" - totally awesome - totally -

The dolphins too, enjoyed the cruise - they play with the Sea Explorer and were leaping out of the water! I even captured one on "film" - fully out of the water.

It was a GREAT Weekend!

Morning Breeze - KSBR

It is 7am Sunday 08.09.09 - Theme from Princess Bride is playing on KSBR - I love this piece - The movie is a favorite too - so many funny bits - "He's only mostly dead" and the fencing and the ROUS's - all of it - The piece kinda winds up with a few notes - by Alex DeGrassi http://www.degrassi.com/

NEXT weekend - Sara and I will be on our way to the Ocean Institute - for a Morning Breeze Cruise with SCOTT AUGUST!!!

FaceBook and Girl Scouts!

Spent WAY too much time hunting HATCHLINGS - Way too much time...

I started a "group" for our Girl Scout Service Unit - and before it was even really ready a buddy requested to join!!

Set some more stuff up on it and sent invites to the Service Unit and - no one else :( But, it is a nice weekend - maybe in the coming week.

Went to the Orange County Girl Scout Council August kick-off this past Tuesday - Only one other person from our Service Unit went with me - funny thing - she's the buddy who is in the GROUP I started today! It was at the Kick-off that I heard to use FaceBook as the platform for the SU site - easier than setting up and entire site on my own, I was told. Boy, was it easy. Only thing is that I can make it fancy - but - the price is right - and for now - it will be great - IF I can get some response! Pictures, Events and other things can be added all right there for the group - EASY!

Tomorrow - I may have a new Daisy Leader to give Orientation to but, have not heard from her - no email replies and I don't have a phone number for her - I just have to show up - just in case - that is a bit frustrating when I don't hear anything... but - I never get tied of where I hold the Orientations - so if no one shows- my daughter and I will just enjoy the oaks for a while - and listen to the birds.

More Geocaching

Friday foxhound and I took Pidude 26 caching - there was a fire at the Fisher Plaza, the building that houses the servers for Geocaching dot com so that causes us to change how we cached. Saturday - GC was back and we came up with some caches for today - Sunday. Pidude found one called "i've fallen and I can't get up" - there are at least eight caches in that immediate area - which i told him - "if we go for that one - we have to look for htese others" "Why?" he asks - I say "If you are going to be passing them and haven't found them yet - ya gotta look for them!" and besides - one of the ATW80 caches (China) was there too -

We ended up only finding 4 of the eight - DNF'd one - decided to not bushwhack one and completely pass on two others (including "I've fallen") too steep and too hot - but we all had fun and Pidude still wants more - so that's the good thing!

the day geocaching "stood still"

so we were going to take a friend geocaching today - but a fire in the Fisher Plaza stopped the original plans - We went to an old favorite park that has two caches that we know of and found those two "letterboxing style" and PiDude26 wants to do more! hoping for the servers to return by tomorrow... we had a great day - anyway - we ran into an old Ranger friend - one we hadn't seen in over a year - one we love and we introduced her to our friend - PiDude26.... we found one "new" cache and discovered two that have been muggled since the last time we found them. he's ready for more - so hoping for the servers (all of them in the building - not just the GC one) to be restored tomorrow!

TUFF CACHE

we tried twice to find a new cache - it is a nano and there is a decoy - found that one - we even had fellow cachers "Boondockers" AND Cepheus7 with us... Pacholik came back after we'd left and found it - darn... gotta go back next weekend - maybe even meet up with the Boondockers again...

GS Camp Out

Last weekend our troop and sister troop 1777 had their first official Camp Out. They all had a great time - wish some of mine would have at least come for the day then changed their minds (the rest of their troop and troop 1777 convincing them that it was ok to stay the night...

My two and the five from 1777 had a blast - mostly they spent their time exploring the creek bed. They found little frogs and "Boy Scouts" If I had know for sure they Were Boy Scouts and the troop they were with - I would informed they pack masters of things the girls said the boys were doing... NOT Boy Scout Safety that is for SURE!

anyway - was also introduced Geocaching to the girls AND "CITO" or Cache in Trash Out - and did a little clean up in the arroyo as we found four caches there - two had not m\been found since 2007 - the girls thot that was pretty cool!

TAGGEDTURKEY VULTURES

http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/homepage/recwobnd.cfm

Turkey Vultures are some of my favorite birds - I love watching them hang on the thermals - circling - rising and falling...

Tagged Turkey Vultures - Some people I know are involved in tagging and studying these birds. I received an email telling about a study and I hope that I get to see some of the tagged birds - kinda like Condors with tags only smaller...

- groups dot yahoo dot com / group / CALBIRDS - with the spaces removed and "dot" to "." will take you to a group with more info - OR:

The University of California Davis - Wildlife Health Center began a statewide study in 2008 looking at heavy metal exposure in scavenging birds. Turkey Vulture is one of the species that has been live trapped, tagged, and monitored. The TUVUs are fitted with "large white with black-numbers" patagial (axillary) tags that are easily visible in flight and when perched. Numbers can usually be easily read with binoculars and/or spotting scopes. Please report any sightings with exact location, observer, date, and tag number to BOTH the BBL and the two researchers below:

The following link for the BBL has instructions on how to report the sighting of an axillary marked bird to the BBL:
http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/homepage/reptauxm.htm

Also please report the sightings to Pete Bloom (master bander) and Terra Kelly the same info by e-mail (trkelly@ucdavis.edu, PHBloom1@aol.com).

weekend...

Foxhound is sleeping - Cepheus7 - he's been up "made dinner" Carnitas in the Crock Pot and he's back to bed - Romeo - he's curled up in the chair next to me - his favorite spot -
Me - bloggin' listening to KSBR - me time - only time I get any.

I want us to go an find some of the Country Caches for the ARW80 series tomorrow - but I want all three of us to go - together - some cachers have already completed the challenge!! They started last Sunday - we saw them at "England" - the cached 72 hours straight!! found all the Countries and the Continents AND "The World"! Some fellow cachers - must be jealous - 'cause they are questioning if these guys had visited ALL the caches themselves... these two say in their logs that others joined them for some caches - I was uncertain about the final "World" if some just tagged along or what - but, if you have 72 hours and you devote it all to finding the caches and solving the puzzles - then - great!! And if you don't have the time - great too - and just because a cacher doesn't log on line - doesn't mean they haven't physically BEEN to the cache - maybe they didn't have access IN THE FIELD to go online for each cache - WE don't - WE must wait till we get home to the computer! So just bcuz a cache- (the Continent Puzzles and THE WORLD Puzzle) isn't logged on line - or any of the COUNTRIES for that matter - doesn't mean these two cachers had not been there...
Sour grapes - yummy yummy!

Off the "s box"

I really like this time of day - KSBR - me an' my dog - sleeping in the chair next to me....

Walk in the park

Going to take the new Ranger on one of the paved road/trails today - going to see if we can get approval for a "new cache"
There is a new SERIES out too - ATW80 80 Caches in total?? one is on the road we are going on - gonna take the Ranger all the way there - first then to our site -

Met Ranger Raul and walked down the road. About a mile to a new Cache - I told him it just published and that I was certain that no one had asked to place it. As we approached GZ - there were two other people there - acting very much like Geocachers... Flashed my GPRs at them as we WERE with a Uniformed person... The Ranger seemed impressed with the entire Geocaching thing - might even look into it himself we think. signed the cache ourselves and he approved of its placement. Headed back towards the car/truck. Found the location for OUR cache and Raul watched as we placed it - came home and posted it it is active already - and about five to seven cacers have looked already!

Girl Scout Cookie Sales Over

Well our little troop sold 213 boxes - 105 were "extra boxes" - if we'd done a booth - or two we probably could have done even more...

next is International Day - and we are representing (South) Korea. Our meeting is tomorrow and I have exciting news for the girls - I think...

Then - in May -we are to do a two troop camp out - That will be fun -

Tired - and need to do laundry and find something for dinner - everyone else in the house is busy playing "computer games" of one sort or another...

Scott August and similar streaming on Pandora.

GS Cookies!

SO - I am troop leader, Orientation Specialist, Team Member and Cookie Mom. Our little troop didn't do booth sales tho she and I have been visiting all of the rest of our Service Unit's troops at theirs - we have been able to sell nearly 105 extra boxes tho! Very excited about that - VERY!

The picture is of Foxhound and our troops' initial order in the cases in our living room!

Favorite Color

and the winner is BLUE

on the sign in sheet for our Girl Scout Service Unit Meeting tonight I asked for Favorite Color - Out of eleven attending (It was Ash Wednesday - so many were at Church instead of a Girl Scout Meeting) FIVE wrote BLUE.

Still trying to figure out HOW to get more leaders to come - having an older girl for the younger ones to do activities with - so far - a bust - just seems no one seems to think the "One representative from each troop is to be at Each Service Unit Meeting" really means anything... need to figure out an incentive... maybe that Yorba Linda Service Unit has ideas!

My Favorite Color is PURPLE!

STANLEY

http://atv.disney.go.com/playhouse/stanley/index.html

was havin' a "remember when" moment - We used to watch Stanley EVERY morning. Love Dennis (the fish) and Harry the dog and Elsie the Cat, any one know the names of George Harrison's parents? At one time I thought it was Harry & Elsie - but now - all I find is "Harold and Louise" still it's close.

I still like the Great Big Book of Everything and the song that goes with it.
I clicked on the link above and Foxhound momentarily stopped what she was doing to listen!!

...and I laughed

The more I listen the more I like - this is my favorite part:

"...Do you want to, come on, scootch over closer dear
And I will nibble your ear

I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and I laughed..."

Foxhound asked what "nibble your ear" means (smile)

The Geek in the Pink

Ok - Official Announcement - I like Jason Mraz too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZHuhtwwzwA

- SO cool when parents like the same music as there kids - the link - says live in Berlin - would love to see any artist is such a small venue - so much fun to be that close - we have seen C G Ryche at Downtown Disney before and Scott August and a few others up close - and I love it - I think the artists do too -

There are several other "tubes" at the same venue - this place is tiny - and sounds like lots of the people know his songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VSmhcOeUGQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJxsjq2C4EE Freestyle Jam in Berlin - THIS is fun!

... had to stop and watch the Free Style -

I love Jason's hat.

I'm Yours - Jason Mraz

This is Foxhound's favorite song right now - I like the drums - nice rhythm too - kinda reggae - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYhrYHmUPn0

I guess Radio Disney plays it "alot". and there is a "bad" word in there too - she wonders how it gets played on "Disney"

and there is this - his official site: http://www.jasonmraz.com/#/bio/

trying to type this and read his bio and Fox keeps finding something else on youtube telling me to "look" - We Sing We Dance We Steal Things -

OK - he's cool - Foxhound says "He's SOOO Random"

Might have to get the CD

"Home - Page" - reminds me of when Foxhound and Angel were at O'Neill Regional Park and every other word was - "FOOD"

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme - Hung Up

A co-worker has been playing Madonna's "Hung Up" all week. Every time I hear the "flute" rift... I feel as is I have heard it B4 - LONG ago - So, I googled something like < "south america" "hung up" madona > - and found that, (even tho I believe the melody comes from even longer ago than ABBA - perhaps a South American "traditional song") Madonna received permission to use ABBA's "flute" theme from Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)

- to me - the melody sounds very much like it could be played on a Zampona - and I think of Sajama - a group who, I won't miss the chance to see - if I know that they are in the area and I have the free time...

listen (watch) for your self!

ABBA - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLtU7aOnp2U - Gimme Gimme Gimme

Madonna - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fVqC8rOw8g - Hung Up

Foxhound tells me that ABBA's isn't a flute - (no they play keyboard - but a "flute" sound) and really - Madonna has someone in HER band who plays an actual - flute???

Anyway - my mystery has been solved - I KNEW I had hear the tune before.

Rainy Day Sunday...

Linked to follow another blog -

heard that some fellow cachers were up at 4am yesterday in the rain to go caching... crazy - I like to just stay inside and sit by a fire (if we had wood) and watch the rain fall.

Dog still pestering me - I can't speak - cuz if I do he tries to jump in my lap - He's sleeping on his towel behind me right now - he likes to sleep in the chair next to me but Foxhound is playing on "her" computer so - he's on the floor (part f why he keeps bugging me)

Listening to KSBR - it's cool cuz you can hear the phone ringing in the background when the DJ announces that it is time to call in... to win something...

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain...

Romeo is bugging me!

Raining - Dog wants to be on my lap - smells the tomato soup left in Foxhound's bowl keeps trying to get it by pawing at ME!

driving me crazy!

let him lick the bowl - he walked outta the room!
Yeah!
Nope he's back - I am done here

Wonder if Foxhound's friend could still solve it with the stickers "off" -

Nineteen Something.. by Mark Wills

I love this song...

Nineteen Somethin'
Mark Wills

I saw Star Wars at least eight times
Had the Pac-Man pattern memorized
And I've seen the stuff they put inside
Stretch Armstrong
I was Roger Staubach back in my back yard
Had a shoebox full of baseball cards
And a couple of Evil Knievel scars
On my right arm
Well, I was a kid when Elvis died
And my mama cried

Chorus:
It was 1970-something
In the world that I grew up in
Farrah Faucett hair-do days
Bell bottoms and eight-track tapes
Lookin' back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn't trade those days for nothin'
It was 1970-something

It was the dawning of a new decade
When we got our first microwave
And Dad broke down and finally shaved
Those sideburns off
I took the stickers off of my Rubix Cube
Watched MTV all afternoon
My first love was Daisy Duke
In them cut off jeans
The Space Shuttle fell out of the sky
And the whole world cried

Chorus:
It was 1980-something
In the world that I grew up in
Skating rinks and Black Trans AMs
Big hair and parachute pants
Lookin' back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn't trade those days for nothin'
It was 1980-something

Now I got a mortgage and an SUV
But all this responsibility
Makes me wish sometimes
Sometimes....

Chorus:
It was 1980-something
In the world that I grew up in
Skating rinks and Black Trans AMs
Big hair and parachute pants
Lookin' back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn't trade those days for nothin'
It was 1980-something

1970-something
Aw, it was 19-Something.....

Waymarking!

YEAH - FINALLY got my (our) blog to be visible to get our "Blogger" Waymark approved - Took three times and two different blog sites

Caught a geocacher at our Neophobic Rattus rattus today - and let him "grab" our GIANT TB (the Geo-300) love catching other cachers...

now - how do I upload pictures.. hummmmm - got it - my elephant collection - hanging on a "towel rack"

...Waymarking

we added this to our stuff we do - as it is so similar to geocaching - like a "sister sport" - but no containers involved - and lots of times - COOL historic stuff!! Like Genoa Toown in NV - that is always fun.

must get to work...

MySpace - FaceBook - Waymarking

well - trying this blogger again - seems that blogs at other sites just don't show up - I think I set things for others to read and am told - "nope, it is set to "private" "

FaceBook sent out invites to a TON of "friends" for me on Super big Football Sunday. Re-Connected with two long lost friends because of it but also ended up sending invites to GS leaders we traded postcards with LAST year and they got upset because I was "using the email list in an inapropiate way."

oh -well - time to work - sure hope THIS blog is visible to others.

anyway - here's my pick for the button

been busy and not had lots of time to even get tho this site..

Tribble

Tribble joined Mr Fuzzles in Guinea Pig heaven on June 26th. That entire week was a very bad week (young co-workers thinking that they could pin "missing money" on me because "she's so stupid that she leave money just laying around" which, is completely untrue and other things) - except that we heard that Kabrina's cancer may have shrunk to 1/3rd it's original size.

We went to visit her at CHOC yesterday. We'd planned to go to the CUBE for one last time. and CHOC is JUST a few blocks away. We got her a Webkinz Turtle and spent some time with her and her mom - then part of the treatment was starting to make her feel not so good.

was reminded about the blog site by Pastor Nichole. so here's today's post. we went to Linens n Things and bought new towels and some other stuff - still cost too much even at their "going Out of Business" sale.

Compass, Knots and Lashing...

and Geocaching!

Foxhound and I went to a day long training for Girl Scouts - we had found #898 & #899 very close to the training facility and planned to grab #900 in the park directly across the street from the training - after we finished.

The course proved to be "too difficult" for Foxhound - and she "threw in the towel" - tho she REALLY DID get a lot of the info that even the adults were struggling with...

At our table was a "newbie" to Geocaching - she'd just cleared her first 25 finds... we invited her to join us on our #900... which she did... I mentioned before that geocaching is a strange small world... people you never think you'll met - suddenly show up at places you don't expect.... turns out her good friend - is the owner of a cache that gave us FITS and about four visits to find - and in a post he'd written that he took some "newbies" with him to verify that it was still there - when WE were still trying to find it... SHE was the "newbie"!

We love Geocaching!

Strange Small World

We geocache - www.geocaching.com for everthing you want to know.

We found it accidentally. At O'Neill Regional Park where we volunteer. A stack of pages and a green decon container... the container was found by Rangers - way off trail. They asked if we knew about "this geocaching thing" - nope - found out and contacted the owner of the container and three other caches in the same area - all requiring bushwhacking which - is not allowed in the park...

We have now over 700 finds and I recently became a Girl Scout Leader. Had to take training. Second night of the meeting we are to write activities our girls might enjoy under pre-written titles on large sheets of paper. I write GEOCACHING - the one dad in the class comes in and ask "who wrote geocaching"? I did! - He says they know about it, they do it, but haven't been in a while - doesn't exactly remember his caching name... I know a cacher with HIS real first name - the one on his name tag. So I ask his last name - !!! It matches the name of the cacher I know! I say - YOU are "oc_bobwhite !!!" YOU are the reason WE cache!!!

I find out he just needs to get equipment fixed - replaced - I was beginning to think we'd caused him to stop caching - because of the Rangers at the Park...

life is funny.
